Taking Action: How do we know when to act, when to wait?

I discovered my entrepreneurial side in my mid-30s.

I started noticing that the ideas constantly popping up in my mind were not just random thoughts. They were opportunities waiting to be explored. Doors to something that perhaps hadn’t been discovered yet.

But having ideas and turning them into reality are two different things.

Back then, I wasn’t always in the right environment or surrounded by the right support to execute them. Or perhaps, deep down, I wasn’t yet confident enough to believe they were actually doable.

As I got to know myself better, things started to change. My ideas gradually turned into projects, and those projects became reality.

Since then, taking action has generally come naturally to me. Yet, there are still times when I postpone executing an idea.

Looking back, I’ve realised something important:

Not taking action immediately can sometimes be an act of wisdom.

Giving ourselves time to reflect, gather information and assess the right moment can make all the difference.

However, there is a fine line between wisely waiting for the right time and procrastinating on something we are perfectly capable of doing.

How do I recognise the difference?

I pause for a moment and imagine myself having already taken the action.I picture the outcome. I imagine how I would feel having done it.

If I feel satisfied, excited or quietly confident about the result, I take it as a signal to move forward rather than overthink it.

If I feel overwhelmed or dissatisfied, I give myself more time to reflect, explore what is holding me back and reconsider my approach.

This simple practice has helped me avoid acting impulsively while also preventing good ideas from remaining ideas forever.

Because sometimes, the next step doesn’t require another plan, another conversation or another round of analysis.

It simply requires us to act.

❓What about you?

How do you find the balance between being cautious enough to make the right decision and brave enough not to postpone an action that could make a real difference?
