A person's name is identity, belonging, recognition...

My name is Yesim...

I have been living and working in multicultural environments for years.

Learning & Development... Coaching... Leadership spaces... surrounded by people who are expected to be at their best in communication...

And yet…

I still receive emails and messages where my name is spelled as:

Yesmin. Yasmin. Jasmine. Yasin. (Yes, really 🙂)

I am usually flexible about it. I even smile or laugh...

But every time it happens, a small question pops up in my mind:

‼️How do we miss something this important?

A person’s name is not a detail. It is #identity, #Belonging, #Recognition.

Especially when:

– It is written clearly in the email signature

– It is right there on Zoom or Teams

– You have already interacted more than once

‼️As a coach, communicator and leader, I believe this is Communication Rule #1 (or Communication 101, if you prefer).

Learn... Notice... Remember...

Names matter... even more in multicultural environments.

I often catch myself wondering:

Shouldn't it be raised more in coaching conversations?

Or is this something we need to work on more deliberately in leadership and communication trainings?

⭐Because if we can’t get a name right…

what else are we unconsciously missing about the people we work with?⭐
