Conflict in Wokplace: How to Handle Conflict at Work

At 23 years old, with only 2 years of experience, I faced one of the hardest workplace lessons of my career: conflict..
A new colleague joined the team for the exact same role 1 year after I started. I still remember the very first thing she said to me:
“I was always wondering who got the role after last year’s recruitment…”
It didn’t feel like a warm introduction🙃
It felt like competition had entered the room before collaboration even had a chance😔
There were many moments, tensions, partial behavior and silence from leadership. Eventually, the conflict became so toxic that I had to leave the organization.
Looking back today; especially while getting ready for this week’s leadership program with @SunExpress on Conflict Resolution, I realize something important:
💫The biggest loss was not just mine... The organization lost too.
A manager failed to step in...Two professionals failed to understand each other.
A potentially strong collaboration never had the chance to grow.
💥Conflict itself is not the real problem. Not addressing it is.
❤️ Today, as a coach and facilitator, I often ask leaders:
❓How are you managing the system between people, not just focusing on the task?
💫 Because unresolved conflict doesn’t disappear. It quietly damages trust, engagement, creativity and belonging.
‼️And sometimes, one difficult conversation could save talent, relationships, and opportunities.
❓What about you? What is one conflict that shaped your career?
❓And as a leader or as part of the conflict yourself, how would you handle it differently today?
